16MnCr5 steel are alloyed case hardening engineering steels for parts which require core tensile strength of 800-1100 N/mm2 and good wearing resistance. It is an engineering material typically used to manufacture piston bolts, camshafts, levers and other vehicle and mechanical engineering components. 

16MnCr5 alloy structural steel has the following general characteristics:

(1)Low carbon Content: 16MnCr5 steel plate is Carburizing steel alloy steel plate. The carbon content in 16MnCr5 is generally not exceed 0.19%, making it a low carbon alloy structural steel suitable for forming processes.

(2) Excellent quenching hardening property: 16MnCr5 steel has high quenching hardness, good strength and toughness, and can withstand large loads.

(3)Good property: high hardenability and machinability, hard and wear-resistant surface and tough core after carburizing and quenching, high low temperature impact toughness, medium weldability, good machinability after normalizing

(4) Strong wear resistance: 16MnCr5 steel has high hardness and strength, the surface is not easy to wear, and it can still maintain good performance under high temperature and high pressure conditions.

Application:

16MnCr5 steel has a wide range of applications due to its excellent properties and affordability. Some common applications of 16MnCr5 steel include:

(1) Main application: Widely used as carburized parts, used for shafts, pistons and various special parts of automobiles and aircrafts.

 

(2)Machined parts: Due to the high strength and strong wear resistance of 16MnCr5 steel, it is suitable for manufacturing mechanical parts such as gears, bearings, and transmission shafts.

 

(3)Used for bearing high-speed, medium or heavy loads, and subject to impact and friction, such as gears, shafts, ring gears, gear shafts, main shafts of sliding bearings, crossheads, claw clutches, worms, etc.

Heat Treatment:
When hardening 16MnCr5 heat treatment temperatures, including the rate of heating, cooling, and soaking times will vary due to factors such as the shape and size of each steel component. Other considerations during heat treatment include the type of furnace, quenching medium, and workpiece transfer facilities.
